Paw Party

We did it!  We have ROARed our way to our first paw party! The celebration is on Friday, December 11. The class also voted to make it a pajama day. So wear comfy clothes!

Stamford Museum and Nature center

I'm so sorry I forgot to post the pictures from our trip to the Nature Center. We went to two classes. One was about matter and the other was on maps. Ask your child about the experiments they did and the map they made. We had a great trip despite the rain that day. 

I hope everyone enjoys their family time this Thanksgiving holiday. 

And please send back the verification for your report card conference. Report cards go home on December 4 and conferences are the following week. Hope to see you!

Room change

It's really true! We'll be back in our room on Monday! I'll take pictures them and post them.

We are going to the Stamford museum on Thursday. Please send a bag lunch with your child.

Halloween

Springdale School celebrated Halloween today with our parade outside. Then the students danced along with the specialists and administrators. We then went inside for some yummy treats. I hope everyone has an exciting and safe Halloween!

We are going to be down in our temporary quarters in the art room for one more week. But our classroom is looking good!  

Please make sure that your children are reading at least 20 minutes per day!

Bartlett Arboretum

We had a wonderful trip today! The weather was perfect. Todd gave us great experiences in the classroom and outside. We observed different types of seeds and learned how seeds travel. Then we walked through the arboretum to see some different types of trees. 

Field trip tomorrow!

We're going to the Bartlett Arbotetum tomorrow.

Remember to give your child a bag lunch.

Fire safety

Today the Deputy Fire Marshal came to give the second graders a talk on home fire safety. Ask your child what rules they learned!

Then the children got to meet a firefighter in his gear and sit in a fire truck!

Sprint

Warming up for the sprint. We had a great time! Thanks to all of you who came to cheer us on!

Date correction

I'm sorry. I gave you the wrong date for the rescheduled sprint. It is Wednesday but Wednesday is the 14th, not the 16th. 

Picture day is this Friday. That's the 16th!

Construction

We will be relocated for the next 2 to 3 weeks so that we can have WALLS built!

We are the first classroom, along with Mrs. Karpowich to have our open classroom space closed in to a traditional model.

Your children and I will be using Mrs. Ramsey's art room while construction is ongoing.

Don't forget that the Sprint has been rescheduled for Wednesday the 16th 

Your child should be reading at least 20 minutes every night in addition to doing their math homework.

Springdale sprint update

The Springdale Sprint has been cancelled due to rain!!!!

Rain date is next Wednesday, October 16.

Open House

Thank you to all who came to Open House. It was wonderful to see you. 

This coming Friday is the Springdale Sprint. Come cheer us on as we run to raise money for our terrific PTO who,in turn, use it for various programs and field trips for our students.

Mrs. Manna announced at Open House that the construction project to put up walls in our open space has finally been given the go ahead. Despite the fact that I had a note to myself near the computer that evening I forgot to mention it. I apologize. The big news for us is that our room and Mrs. Karpowich are being done first! Therefore, we will be relocated to Room 17 for about 3 weeks beginning the day after  Columbus Day. I have not yet told the class. We'll be telling them later in the week. More updates on this are coming. 

Book fair,Scholastic News,Open House and Science

The school book fair opens on Monday. Our class will go on Monday. If you and your child found books to buy in the flyer that came home, feel free to send in money for Monday. The students all make wish lists at the class visit time so you can also wait till later in the week or Open House to buy books.

Open House is Thursday,October 1 at 6:30. Class visits begin at 7:00. I'm looking forward to seeing you!

Today we learned about the 3 states of matter. The scientists in  Room 111 recited observations of a solid(Alka Seltzer tablet) and a liquid (water). Then they observed what changed when the solid was put in the liquid! Ask them!

Dot Day

Today Springdale celebrated Dot Day. This is a day to reinforce the idea that we all have something to say and a contribution to make. During their specials time today all classes worked on a mural outside. 

In class we made transformations of a dot and then wrote about that transformation. 

If you have not sent in your emergency form, please do so 

There is no school on Wednesday the 23rd.

First Week

We did it! We had a successful first week of school! It was wonderful to meet and begin to get to know each other. 

Please send in the emergency and digital media use forms that you received with the class assignment in August. If you need copies let me know.
